Day 11: An Additive Addict

I'm an addict. I admit it. I've had a love affair with Diet Coke for most of my life.  Just look at this gorgeous silver can perspiring in the August heat and tell me it doesn't remind you of all that is good and right in this world.

Diet Coke is a registered trademark of "F*ck your health, we want you cash."

No? Not doing it for you? Well, me either. It's been 117 days since my last sip of that aspartame laced beauty. I didn't kick caffeine cold to the curb though. I did, and still do, drink a cup of black tea every morning with a splash of soy milk. I've replaced the carbonation that I so long for in Diet Coke with billions of dollars wasted on fine mineral spirits, like a nice cool orange La Croix.

Nice cool La Croix

However, now that I'm on this natural plant kick, I've been toying with something new. Something that I used to abhor. When someone at the table would order their water with a lemon or lime, I would be sure to tell the waiter or waitress that I would like my water plain, thank you very much. Oh and a Diet Coke too.

But lately, I've started to change my tune. I timidly placed some lemons and limes into my shopping cart while no one was looking. I heated some water and squeezed this strange fruit into my glass. And you know what? It's not bad! I didn't die. I actually kind of enjoyed it.  And what did you say? It's good for me?  According to sites like thechalkboardmag.com, warm lemon water will Boost my Immune System, Balance my Body's PH, Help with Weight Loss, Aid Digestion, Clear my skin and Hydrate my Lymph System.

My new best friend?

That all sounds wonderful, but what about my beloved carbonation? I may give it up. I may... But what if I could carbonate my natural lemon/lime drink in the comfort of my very own home?  Target says I can with this: Sodastream. Is it too good to be true? I don't know. I'll have to get on amazon and read some reviews from my fellow carbonation junkies. In the meantime,  I've got my warm lemon water taunting me to drink. And drink I shall.

  1. Sarah and I are basically the same with the Soda (Diet Pepsi). Let us know how it goes, think we may follow on this stage.
